Opportunity details

Difficulties with mental health can attract complexity in multiple areas of a person’s life. While psychosocial and clinical care can be important in supporting people through diverse challenges, there has been increasing recognition that other services can contribute by addressing issues that may cause or exacerbate impact on mental health and wellbeing. Legal issues –including family law issues, money issues, access to ID, housing and employment –are among those which have been found to affect and be affected by mental health. Recognising these intersections, Neami National is seeking to better understand unmet legal needs and access to supports that address these through a partnership with Health Justice at a number of Neami sites.

Health Justice Australia and the Neami National Research Team are developing a research project alongside this work with services. The research will inform directions for staff support, service delivery or to advocate to address unmet legal needs.

Neami is seeking participants to contribute their perspectives on how to best engage lived experience expertise on this project. Participants will take part in a 1-hour discussion with members of the project team from Health Justice Australia and Neami in late August 2021 to assist with project planning.

The participants will:

·      Provide advice to the Health Justice Australia and Neami project team about how to best engage lived experience expertise in an ongoing way on the project via a 1-hour discussion with the project team.

Who we are looking for

·      Experience utilising Neami services and programs

·      Interest or personal experiences in the legal needs of people accessing mental health services

·      Interest or experience in contributing to research projects

·      Ability and willingness to contribute lived experience expertise in a project team

Participants will be paid $40 per hour for their time.

There may be potential for ongoing involvement in this project, for example, through a project steering group.
